At Samz Design, our chest of drawers range is made from solid teak wood, sourced from our trusted partners in Indonesia and assembled at our Shah Alam facility. Teak is not a decorative choice here it is a practical one. The natural oil content in the grain resists moisture and humidity, which means the wood does not swell, the drawers do not stick, and the joints do not loosen over time the way MDF and engineered wood pieces tend to in Malaysian conditions.

What We Carry

The chest of drawers range covers three configurations built around the most common bedroom storage needs in Malaysian homes:

3-Drawer Chest — The compact option. Suits smaller bedrooms, apartments, and spaces where you want drawer storage without the visual weight of a tall unit. Works as a bedside alternative when you need more than one drawer but don’t want a full bedside table. Available in solid teak with a warm natural finish.

5-Drawer Tallboy — The workhorse. Tall, narrow footprint, fits into corners and alongside wardrobes without eating into floor space. Five drawers across the height of the unit gives you dedicated space for each clothing category — no more digging through one drawer to find something from another. Solid teak throughout, custom heights available on request.

Custom Configurations — If your bedroom has a specific alcove, a non-standard wall width, or you want a drawer unit that matches an existing piece from the Samz range, we build to your measurements. Share the dimensions and we will confirm what is achievable.

Why Teak Holds Up in Malaysian Bedrooms

Most drawer units in Malaysian furniture stores are made from MDF, particle board, or laminated engineered wood. These materials look good in a showroom. After 12 to 18 months in a Malaysian bedroom — air conditioning cycling on and off, humidity shifts between day and night, the general movement of drawers in and out — the joints start to show the stress. Surfaces chip. Drawer runners stick.

Solid teak does not behave this way. The density of the grain and the natural silica content in the wood make it resistant to the humidity swings that cause cheaper materials to expand and contract. Teak furniture that is well maintained does not have a lifespan — it has generations. Ours is sourced from our Indonesian partners by grade, A-grade solid teak throughout, and assembled at our Shah Alam workshop before delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a tallboy and a chest of drawers?
Both are vertical storage units with stacked drawers. A tallboy is typically taller and narrower  5 to 7 drawers in a compact footprint, designed to maximise storage height rather than width. A standard chest of drawers is usually wider and lower, with 3 to 5 drawers. For Malaysian bedrooms where floor space is limited, a tallboy is often the better use of the room.

Why does teak wood not stick or swell in Malaysia’s humidity?
Teak has one of the highest natural oil contents of any furniture timber. These oils act as an internal moisture barrier, stopping humidity from being absorbed into the grain. This is why teak drawer joints stay tight and drawer runners stay smooth in Malaysian conditions where MDF and cheaper woods swell, warp, and stick.

Yes. Free delivery within the Klang Valley covering Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, and Klang. Other states are available on request. Assembly is included with delivery.

What is the best placement for a chest of drawers in a Malaysian bedroom?
Most Malaysian bedrooms work best with the chest of drawers positioned alongside the wardrobe rather than opposite the bed, keeping the main sightline from the door clear. In smaller rooms, a tallboy in the corner beside the wardrobe gives you maximum storage with the least visual weight. If your bedroom has built-in shelving on one wall, a narrow 3-drawer unit on the opposite wall balances the layout without crowding the space.
