Why These Materials Work Here

Teak is the main timber in this range and it’s not just a preference. Teak has natural oils in the grain that block moisture from being absorbed into the wood. That’s why it doesn’t warp or loosen at the joints the way cheaper imported timber does once it goes through a few Malaysian wet seasons. It comes in warm and golden-brown. Left without treatment over time it mellows slightly, which some people prefer. Oil it once or twice a year and it holds the original colour. Our teak is sourced from our partners in Indonesia. Powder-coated aluminium is the lightest metal option and it doesn’t rust. Good for indoor dining rooms and covered terraces. Stainless steel 304 is heavier and carries more structural rigidity, with better corrosion resistance for spaces that get some outdoor exposure. Mild steel is the most rigid of the three and works best in fixed indoor settings. All three are fabricated and powder-coated in-house at the Shah Alam workshop. Why does teak hold up better than other timber in Malaysia’s climate?
The natural oils inside the grain stop moisture from getting into the wood. A lot of imported timber looks fine in an air-conditioned showroom, but once it’s sitting in a real Malaysian home through a few wet seasons, it absorbs humidity, warps and loosens at the joints. Teak doesn’t do that. The stability is in the material itself, not a surface treatment.

Where does Samz Design source its teak?
