How to actually choose a sofa (without regretting it later)

Most sofa guides tell you to “measure your space” and call it a day. Here is the version that actually works.

1. Measure the room, then measure the route in

The classic mistake is picking a sofa that fits the room but does not fit through the door, the lift, or the corridor. Before you commit, measure your front door width, any staircase turns, your lift dimensions (both floor and diagonal), and any narrow corridors. Give us these measurements when you enquire and we will confirm whether a sofa fits through, or whether you need a modular option that arrives in sections.

2. Match sofa length to how you use the room Quick sizing reference:

For smaller layouts, consider pairing a 2-seater with our Accent Chairs or Lounge Seats instead of forcing a larger sofa into the space.

If the sofa is the main seating for a family of four or more, do not go smaller than a 3-seater plus one accent chair. You will regret it within six months.

3. Get the depth right for how you actually sit

Sofa depth is the single most under-discussed spec, and the one that decides whether you love or hate your sofa.

• Standard depth (90 to 95 cm): upright, formal sitting, good for shorter people
• Deep seat (100 to 110 cm): lounging, curling up, family movie nights

If you are under 165 cm, a deep sofa can feel like it swallows you. If you are over 180 cm, a shallow sofa feels like a bar stool. Match the depth to the tallest regular user.

4. Choose your fill by lifestyle, not by feel in the showroom

Every cushion feels great in the showroom. The one that still feels great in year three is the one you want.

• High-density foam: holds shape longest, firmer seat, low Best for daily-use family sofas.
• Foam and feather blend: the sweet spot for most Structured but soft, needs occasional plumping.
• All feather: cloud-like, requires daily plumping to keep Best for lightly-used formal living rooms.
• Pocket spring core: most supportive over long sitting Adds weight and cost, best for premium builds.

5. Decide indoor, semi-outdoor, or fully outdoor

Malaysia’s climate is not kind to furniture. Choose the frame accordingly:

Solid teak is the premium wood in our range. Rich in natural oils that resist water, insects, and rot, teak is the traditional heirloom choice for sofa frames. All our teak is sourced through our long-standing Indonesian workshop partners.

Tropical hardwoods including balau, meranti, and mixed hardwood species offer teak-like durability at a more accessible price point. Also sourced from our Indonesian partners.

Powder-coated aluminium is the backbone of our modern and semi-outdoor sofa ranges. Rust-proof, lightweight, and available in a range of colours including white, teak-tone, dark grey, dark brown, black, and beige. Fabricated end-to-end at our Shah Alam workshop, which means cutting, welding, powder coating, and quality inspection all happen under our roof.

Performance fabrics are engineered for daily family use. Stain-resistant, easy to clean, and available in a range of colours and weaves. We can share swatches at the showroom or send you samples.

Olefin rope and synthetic wicker are used on our outdoor and semi-outdoor sofas. UV-treated, fade-resistant, and comfortable to sit on without cushions. Woven onto our in-house aluminium frames.
