TV Consoles

TV Consoles

Here is what usually happens. You spend weeks choosing the right TV. You mount it on the wall or set it on a stand, step back, and realise the console underneath looks like it belongs in a completely different room. Too short. Too narrow. Wrong colour. Drawers that stick. Shelves too shallow for your router and set-top box. And the cables are everywhere. The TV console is the most visible piece of furniture in most living rooms, and it is also the one people settle on the fastest. Whatever fits the wall, whatever is in stock, whatever arrives this week. The result is a living room anchored by a piece of furniture that was never built for that specific wall, that specific TV, or the way you actually live. We think that is backwards. At Samz Design, every TV console is made to order from solid teak wood in our Shah Alam workshop. You tell us the width your wall needs, the height that works with your seating, the number and layout of drawers and shelves, and the finish you want. We build it. One piece, for one wall, in your living room.

Why Most TV Consoles Fall Apart in Malaysian Homes

This is not about taste. It is about physics. The average flat-pack TV console is built from MDF or particleboard with a laminate surface. It is designed to be light, cheap, and easy to ship. It is not designed to carry a 25 kg TV on a span of 180 cm in a country where indoor humidity regularly sits above 70 percent. What happens over time is predictable. The centre of the top panel starts to bow. Not dramatically, not all at once, but enough that you notice your TV is no longer sitting perfectly level. The laminate along the edges begins to peel because the adhesive cannot hold against moisture working its way in from the cut ends. The drawer runners, which were plastic to begin with, develop a grind. The whole piece starts to feel loose, the way cheap furniture always does once the honeycomb cardboard filler inside the panels compresses under load. Solid teak does not do any of this. Teak is a dense, oily hardwood that repels moisture from inside the grain structure. It does not swell, does not warp, and does not lose its shape under load. A 210 cm teak console carries a 65-inch TV the same way on day one as it does five years later. The joints stay tight because teak holds screws and dowels with real grip, unlike particleboard where fasteners gradually pull free from the material. This is why high-end hotels, resorts, and commercial fit-outs specify solid wood for their media furniture. It is not about luxury. It is about not having to replace the piece every two years.

Three Solid Wood TV Consoles, Each Built for a Different Room

We keep our collection focused. Three designs, each solving a different layout and storage problem. All three are fully customisable in width, height, depth, finish, and storage configuration.

Samz Teak Wood TV Cabinet

This is our most popular design, and the one most customers start with. Solid teak throughout, with sculpted drawer fronts that give the surface a tactile, architectural quality you can feel when you run your hand across it. It is not flat. It is not plain. The wood itself is the design element. Available in 180 cm and 210 cm widths. The 180 cm fits comfortably beneath a 55 to 65-inch TV, while the 210 cm suits screens up to 75 inches or larger. Storage includes drawers and open shelving for media devices, sound bars, game consoles, and cabling. If you have a straightforward wall with no alcoves or obstacles, and you want a warm, statement piece that anchors the room, this is the one.

British Teak Wood TV Cabinet

A-grade solid teak with a more understated, structured profile. Where the Samz Cabinet leads with personality through its sculpted fronts, the British model leads with proportion and quiet confidence. The design is cleaner, more linear, and sits well in rooms where the architecture or the art on the walls is doing most of the visual work. Practical storage with ample depth for media equipment. Works equally well in residential living rooms and commercial spaces where the console needs to complement rather than compete with the surroundings. This is the console for people who want the material quality of solid teak without a loud design statement.

Bistro Teak Wood TV Cabinet

Premium A-grade teak with a natural grain finish. Dimensions: 180 x 45 x H43 cm. This is our lowest-profile design, sitting at just 43 cm tall, which makes it the right choice for rooms where the TV is wall-mounted and you want the console to feel like a long, low shelf rather than a piece of standing furniture. The low height also works well in rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows or low sofas, where a taller console would block sight lines or feel visually heavy. Fully customisable. Need it wider? Narrower? Different depth? Just tell us.

The Width Problem Nobody Talks About

Here is a scenario we hear at least once a week. A customer has a 3-metre wall in their living room. The TV is centred on it. They go online and find TV consoles in 120, 150, or 180 cm. The 180 looks right in the product photo, but when it arrives and sits against that wall, it looks like it is floating in the middle of nowhere. Too much empty wall on either side. The proportions are off, and no amount of styling with plants and books on top fixes it because the problem is structural. The console is the wrong width for that wall. The answer is not always the widest option. Sometimes a 200 cm console is perfect. Sometimes 240 cm is what the wall actually needs. Sometimes the room has an alcove or a column that means you need 167 cm, exactly, or it does not fit. Standard sizing cannot solve this. Custom sizing can. Every TV console we build starts with your wall measurement. Not a product catalogue. Not what we have in stock. Your wall. The console is then designed to sit in proportion with that wall and that TV, with the storage layout planned around the devices you actually own. This is the kind of thing that sounds like a small detail until you see the result. A TV console that fills the wall correctly transforms the entire room. Everything looks intentional. Everything looks designed. Because it was.

Storage That Actually Fits Your Equipment

The second problem with off-the-shelf TV consoles is the storage. Open shelves that are 8 cm too shallow for your router. Drawers that look generous in photos but cannot fit a game controller lying flat. Cable management that consists of a single hole in the back panel, positioned exactly where you do not need it. When we build a custom TV console, the storage layout is part of the conversation. Tell us what goes inside. A Unifi router and mesh unit. A PlayStation. A Sonos soundbar. A collection of vinyl you want displayed. We design the internal dimensions around those objects, not the other way around. Open shelving works best for devices that need ventilation, like game consoles, streaming boxes, and routers that generate heat. Closed storage with doors works best for items you want hidden: cables, power strips, spare controllers, manuals you will never read but cannot throw away. The best TV consoles combine both. Open sections where you need access and airflow, closed sections where you need things out of sight. That is how we design ours. Cable management is planned during the build, not added as an afterthought. We cut routing channels and exit holes in positions that match your specific device layout, so cables run through the console cleanly instead of dangling behind it.

Low Profile TV Consoles for Wall-Mounted Screens

Wall-mounting your TV changes everything about what the console underneath needs to do. It no longer supports the screen. It no longer needs to be a certain height. Its only job is storage, display, and visual anchoring. This is where low profile TV consoles come in. Our Bistro model sits at just 43 cm, creating a long, horizontal line beneath the TV that draws the eye across the wall instead of up and down. The low height keeps the room feeling open, especially in apartments and condos where ceiling heights are limited and vertical furniture can make the space feel compressed. A low console also changes the relationship between the TV and the seating. When the console drops below the typical 50 to 60 cm height, the TV naturally becomes the focal point of the wall, with the console supporting it visually without competing for attention. If you want something even lower, or if your wall has specific constraints, we build to whatever height your room requires. Some of our hotel projects have specified consoles as low as 35 cm, essentially a floating shelf with concealed storage. We can do that.

Solid Wood TV Consoles for Hotels, Lobbies, and Commercial Spaces

A hotel room TV console takes more abuse in a single year than a residential piece takes in a decade. Guests set wet glasses on it. Housekeeping wipes it down daily with cleaning products. Suitcases get dragged across the front. The TV is on 18 hours a day, and the heat from the back panel slowly bakes whatever surface sits behind it. Particleboard does not survive this. Solid teak does. We supply TV consoles for hotels, serviced apartments, resorts, and restaurants across Malaysia and internationally. Our B2B solutions service handles bulk orders with consistent quality and finish across every unit. If you are fitting out 50 rooms, unit number 50 looks identical to unit number 1. For commercial projects, we work from your interior designer’s drawings or our own custom design service. Specify the width, height, depth, finish, cable management positions, and storage layout. We build to spec and deliver to your timeline. Past projects include hotel room media units, resort lobby consoles, restaurant AV furniture, and serviced apartment fit-outs in Malaysia, Singapore, and the UAE.

How to Choose the Right TV Console for Your Living Room

Four measurements. That is all you need before you contact us. Wall width. Measure the full wall where the console will sit, not just the space you think the console should fill. We need the full picture to get the proportions right. If there are power sockets, light switches, or skirting board details on that wall, note their positions too. TV size. Tell us the screen size in inches and whether the TV is on a stand or wall-mounted. This determines the minimum console width (the console should be at least as wide as the TV stand or the screen itself) and whether we need to factor in screen height. Desired height. For TVs on a stand, the console height plus the TV stand should put the centre of the screen roughly at seated eye level, which is around 100 to 110 cm from the floor in most living rooms. For wall-mounted TVs, choose the console height based on visual proportion and storage needs. Our three models range from 43 to 60 cm, but we build to any height. What goes inside. List the devices, objects, and items you plan to store in or on the console. This tells us how many shelves and drawers you need, how deep they should be, and where to place cable routing. Send us these four things by WhatsApp or email, and we will come back with a design recommendation and a quote, usually within one to two working days.

TV Consoles and Matching Living Room Furniture

A TV console anchors one wall. But a room comes together when the other pieces work with it. If you are furnishing your living room around a new TV console, these collections complement what we build: Our sideboards in teak and rattan sit at a similar height and visual weight, making them a natural companion on an adjacent wall. Pair your console with a teak coffee table for a cohesive material palette across the room. Side tables in matching teak or powder-coated steel complete the seating area without visual clash. Our bookcases and shelves share the same solid wood construction and can be designed to match your console’s finish exactly. For a bedroom TV setup, browse our bedroom furniture collection where console-height pieces work equally well as media units.

Frequently Asked Questions

What width TV console do I need for a 65-inch TV?

A 65-inch TV measures roughly 145 cm across. Your console should be at least that wide so the TV does not overhang the edges, which looks unstable and unbalanced. For best visual proportion, go 20 to 40 cm wider than the screen. A 180 cm console is the most popular width for a 65-inch TV. If your wall is wider, consider going up to 210 cm or a custom width to fill the space properly.

How tall should a TV console be?

For a TV sitting on a stand on the console, aim for a total height (console plus TV stand) that places the centre of the screen at approximately 100 to 110 cm from the floor. This puts the screen at comfortable seated eye level. For wall-mounted TVs, the console height is purely a visual and storage decision. Our Bistro model at 43 cm gives a sleek low-profile look, while our Samz model at standard height provides more substantial drawer storage.

Is solid teak better than engineered wood for a TV console?

In Malaysia’s climate, significantly better. Engineered wood and MDF absorb humidity through their cut edges and gradually swell, bow, and delaminate. Solid teak contains natural oils that resist moisture at the cellular level. It holds its shape under the sustained weight of a TV and media equipment without sagging, and it gets more visually appealing as it ages. The cost difference is real, but so is the lifespan. A teak console will comfortably outlast three or four MDF replacements.

Can I get a TV console wider than 210 cm?

Yes. 210 cm is our widest standard option, but we build to any width your wall requires. We have made consoles up to 300 cm for large living rooms and hotel lobbies. For anything over 210 cm, we typically build in two sections that join seamlessly on site, so the piece can be delivered through standard doorways.

Do your TV consoles have cable management?

Every console includes cable routing built into the design. We cut channels and exit holes based on where your specific devices sit, so cables run through the interior of the console rather than hanging behind it. If you tell us your device layout during the order process, we position the cable points exactly where they need to be.

Can I use a TV console as a sideboard or a low bookshelf?

Absolutely. A solid wood TV console with the right proportions works beautifully as a sideboard in a dining room, a low display shelf in an entryway, or a media unit in a bedroom. The Bistro model at 43 cm height is especially versatile for this. Several of our customers have ordered the same design for multiple rooms, using it as a TV console in the living room and a sideboard in the dining room.

Do you deliver and install?

We deliver nationwide across Malaysia. For larger pieces and commercial orders, we offer assembly and installation through our assembly service. International shipping is available to Singapore, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UK, and US.

I have a photo of a TV console I like. Can you build something similar?

Send it over. A photo, a screenshot from Instagram or Pinterest, even a rough sketch on paper. Our custom design team will review it, confirm what is achievable in solid teak or steel, and come back with a detailed quote including material options, dimensions, and timeline. Some of our best-selling designs started as a customer’s reference image.
