Samz Design works from Pusat Perniagaan Subang, Shah Alam. Aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel frames are cut, welded and powder coated in our workshop. Olefin rope and Viro wicker are woven onto the frames there. Upholstery is cut and sewn there. The one thing we do not dress up is the wood: the teak and hardwood in our furniture are sourced from partners in Indonesia, a country with generations of teak craft behind it.

Our teak and hardwood are sourced from partners in Indonesia. Teak carries natural oils that resist water and insects, which is why it has been the benchmark for outdoor furniture for decades. Left untreated it silvers over time; oiled, it keeps its golden colour
Metal
Aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel frames are fabricated and powder coated in our Shah Alam workshop. Aluminium never rusts and keeps pieces light enough to move around a condo balcony or pool deck. Mild steel is stronger and cheaper, but it depends on its powder coat: chip the coat and it needs attention, which our workshop provides

Built for Malaysian Weather, Not Imported Weather
A set that survives a European summer can fall apart in one Klang Valley monsoon. This is what our climate does to outdoor furniture, and what we build against it:
Monsoon rain
Months of heavy afternoon downpours soak anything left outside. Solid teak and powder coated aluminium shed water and dry out; cheap steel frames rust from the inside of the joints first, and natural rattan softens, blackens and breaks. Every Samz frame is welded and finished to be hosed down and left out, all year
Sun and UV
Equatorial sun fades fabrics and makes low grade plastic brittle within a couple of years. Our outdoor fabrics and foam are chosen for UV exposure, and teak simply deepens in colour rather than cracking
Humidity and mould
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) puts Peninsular Malaysia's mean relative humidity between roughly 80% and 88% through the year, so cushions that hold water quickly start to smell and spot with mould. Quick drying foam and breathable outdoor covers matter more here than almost anywhere else. If your current cushions have gone musty, re-upholstery with the right foam is usually the fix, and it costs far less than a new set
Termites (anai-anai)
A real fear for Malaysian homeowners, and a fair one. Teak's natural oils make it one of the most termite resistant timbers in use, which is one reason it has been trusted outdoors here for generations. Softer local woods and untreated timber are a different story
Coastal air
Homes near the sea, from Klang and Port Dickson to Penang and Johor Bahru, deal with salt in the air. Powder coated aluminium handles it well; bare or chipped steel does not. Tell us if your set will live near the coast and we will steer you to the right frame
A simple care rhythm that works here
rinse dust off monthly, wash cushions before the monsoon months, oil teak once or twice a year if you want the golden colour, and store or cover soft furnishings during the worst storm weeks.

What is the best material for outdoor furniture in Malaysia?
For Malaysia’s sun, rain and humidity, the materials that hold up best are teak, powder coated aluminium, olefin rope and Viro wicker. Teak lasts the longest and ages well; aluminium is the lightest and never rusts; olefin rope and Viro wicker give a softer, woven look and handle rain without complaint. Untreated mild steel and natural rattan are the two to avoid outdoors.
Can outdoor furniture really stay outside through the monsoon?
Yes, if it was built for it. Teak and powder coated aluminium sets are made to live outside all year in Malaysia, including the monsoon months. What needs shelter is soft furnishings: bring cushions under cover during the worst storm weeks, or choose quick drying foam and outdoor fabrics that cope with getting wet.
Will termites attack teak furniture?
Teak is one of the most termite resistant timbers you can buy, because of the natural oils in the wood. It is not a guarantee against every pest in every situation, and soft untreated woods are far more vulnerable, but termite damage is rarely the reason a teak piece fails in Malaysia. Weather and neglect end more sets than termites do.
My cushions smell damp and have mould spots. What can I do?
That is the most common complaint we hear in this climate, and it usually means the foam is holding water. Covers can be washed or replaced; if the foam itself has gone, new quick drying foam and fresh outdoor fabric covers are the proper fix. Our workshop re-upholsters with materials chosen for Malaysian humidity, and it costs a fraction of a new set.
Is custom furniture expensive?
Custom furniture costs more than mass produced imports, but usually less than people expect, because you are buying from the workshop rather than through importers and showrooms. The price depends on the material, size and finish. A custom design consultation with us starts from RM 200, and we quote every piece in writing before you commit.
How long does outdoor furniture last in Malaysia?
A well made teak piece can last for decades outdoors in Malaysia. Powder coated aluminium gives many years of service with almost no maintenance. How much does furniture repair cost?

My teak furniture has turned grey. Is it ruined?
No. Grey is teak’s natural weathered colour, not damage, and the wood underneath is sound. Cleaning, a light sand and re-oiling bring back the golden colour, or you can leave it silvered if you like the look. Read our teak care guide
I live in a condo with a small balcony. What actually fits?
Measure the balcony first, then think in centimetres: a compact bistro or lounge set in aluminium and rope gives you real seating without swallowing the space, and lighter pieces are kinder to lift access and condo rules.
